I got the degrees. I put in the work, professionally and physically. I structured my days, journaled, went outside, tried to build the “right” habits. I even tried expanding my world by meeting more people, putting myself in new spaces, thinking maybe that would be the thing that helped me step fully into the version of myself I knew I was meant to be.

A self-determined, actualized version of me.

But even while doing all of that, something still didn’t fit. Because so much of it was performance. Even the parts that were supposed to be for me.

What’s missing is time spent actually being with yourself— without performing, without editing, without trying to arrive at the “right” answer.

What if self-determination wasn’t something you built from the outside in, but something you accessed by paying closer attention to what’s already within you? What if you didn’t need more information, more structure, or more approval to begin? What if the work was simpler than that—less outward, more honest, and entirely your own?

I believe that is what it means to return to yourself.

A small way to start the journey of returning to yourself (you can do this today)

Set a timer for 10 minutes.

Ask yourself one question: “What has been taking up the most space in my mind lately?”

Write the answer without editing.

Then add one line: “And what that might mean is…”

Keep going for a few sentences as the thoughts move you.

That’s it. You don’t need clarity yet and you don’t need to solve anything. The goal isn’t to have any of the right answers, the goal is to practice how it feels in your body as you get comfortable asking yourself questions. And in these short sessions, they take nearly no effort to do.

You’re just practicing noticing yourself in real time. And that alone starts to shift things. It’s really that simple.

Everything I’ve been writing lately has been circling the idea that self-awareness isn’t something you achieve once. It’s something you return to, in different seasons, with different questions and as a slightly different version of yourself each time.

That’s why I created 30 journal prompts that are centered around questions to help you better understand yourself and what you have within you. It’s a guide that is flexible enough to meet you wherever you are. These questions are just a starting point, but they are the questions you might ask yourself as you start your journey of self-discovery, deep thinking, and embodying what you already know and desire.

Upgrade to a paid subscription to access the guide below.
